I had the privilege and honor to revisit Tampico, Mexico to shoot the wedding of José & Vane. The day I arrived was an absolutely perfect breezy, sunny day, which also gave me a good break from the icy cold winter back home. The following day was to be an engagement/portrait session with Jose & Vane, but the forecast showed wind, rain, clouds and no sign of relief from it. Most people want perfect weather for their engagement photos, but not for adventurous types like myself, Jose & Vane. It’s an understatement to say I had fun photographing these two lovebirds.
We had scouted out areas to photograph the day prior, and were able to use one of the locations, but when the weather was getting just a bit too windy and rainy, I felt compelled to ask them if they would like to go to the pier nearby, instead of heading back into town for the other planned locations. I had photographed a wedding in Tampico last summer, and remember the pier being quite long and imagined the storm would bring some texture to the ocean. I was hopeful we could land some really fun images. On our way down the pier we literally ran into 100-200 raccoons that live on the pier. At first it was pretty creepy, but eventually we got used to it and were able to get comfortable enough to stop and shoot a few images, even though they were creeping up behind me. When we got to the end of the pier, I was even able to get them to stand up on a big cement block next to the raging waters. I got up there myself next to them and braved the high winds and crashing waves, one of the images below was a close call where the wave was pretty big and soaked us pretty good. This was hands down one of the funnest shoots I’ve had in a long while.
